Reader Review: Ouidad

Big thanks to reader Natalye for sharing her review on Ouidad’s curl product line with us!

OUIDAD CURL CO-WASH

Price: $30.00

What’s in it?
Aqua, Sodium Lauroamphoacetate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Hydroxypropyl
Starch Phosphate, Ricinus Communis (Castor Oil), Nigella Sativa Seed Oil, Rosarinus
Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Oil, Fragrance/Parfum, Citric Acid,
Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Liminene,
Methycloroisoisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone

How did your hair respond to it?

The curl co-wash is a low-lathering sulfate, paraben, and silicone free cleansing conditioner. This product is marketed as co-wash but  has a cleanser in the product (Sodium Lauroamphoacetate). This product has nice slip and felt soft in my hair, but once I rinsed it out, my hair felt dry. My hair also felt weighed down and didn’t feel clean. I tried this product because of the rave reviews from other low-porosity Youtubers, which proves even though we are low-porosity our
hair is still different when it comes to what it likes and doesn’t like. My hair does not
agree with the oils in  this product.

I would not repurchase this product.

OUIDAD MOISTURE LOCK LEAVE-IN

PRICE: $23.00

What’s in it?
Water, Glycerin, Cetyl Alcohol, Cetyl peg/ppg-10/1 Dimethicone, Amodimethicone, Cetearyl
Alcohol, Hydrogenated Castor Oil/Sebacic Acid Copolymer, Behentrimonium Methosulfate,
Polyquaternium-59, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Arnica
Montana Flower Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana
(Witch Hazel) Leaf Extract, Opuntia (Prickly Pear Cactus) Tuna Flower Extract, Parfum
(Fragrance), Butylene Glycol, PVP, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Disodium EDTA, Diazolidinyl Urea,
Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate.

How did your hair respond to it?
I use this product as leave-in. I apply this on damp hair. This product provides moisture to my hair without weighing  it down. My hair feels soft and it gives my fine hair more volume. This product does contain silicones. My low porosity hair loves silicones and humectants. The only con with this product is that it does not work well with other non-Ouidad products. However, I can combine it with the Curl Junkies Curl Assurance Smoothing Lotion with no
problems. I have applied other non-Ouidad products over this leave-in conditioner and I was left with a white residue.

How did your hair respond to it?

This is product is a styling cream specifically designed for tighter curls. This is my wash n go hair product. I have yet to accomplish the traditional wash n go without dry and tangled hair. I spritz my hair lightly with water before I apply it to my hair or I apply it after my leave-in conditioner. The result is soft defined curls, without the stickiness or crunch. My low-porosity hair prefers creams to gels.

  1. Thanks for the review! I picked up some Moisture Lock and Curl Quench styler from Ouidad and I love it!! Thanks fellow LoPos for sharing…my hair must love silicones and humectants too because this combo makes even my left over relaxed ends curl! I am 8 months into my transition…

  2. Hi, I’m glad I found your blog. I have low po hair and found out earlier this year. My hair is also hip length so I have added moisture challenges, plus I’m breastfeeding. I was reading your routine and will probably come here for reference if I continue to tweak the routine I came up with on my blog http://www.paleobeautiful.com. The one thing that I said on a youtube video that I no longer believe, is about heavy oils…I do not think low po ppl should use them. My best friend is glycerin, and if I reach for oil, I go for grapeseed oil. I just ordered a heat cap. I have a conditioner I love by Blensblend. My other best friend is a bun. I used to have to put something on my hair constantly until I made it a point to bun my hair up all day, with a banana clip. Now that I do not have to keep such heavy moisturizers on my ends, I could actually go longer between washes and enjoy more volume and less weight on my hair, and that is perfecto! I don’t know yet how long I should stretch my wash/condition day but I do know that glycerin + bun is magical for me. This is the first time in my life I cannot find a split end in my hair.
